Nike Mag Mens High Top from Back To The Future

Sit back, close your eyes and come for a ride.

Where we’re going, we don’t need roads. Time circuits on, you hit 88 mph and the Flux Capacitor does that sparky thing that makes you hold your breath and before you know it, “did we make it?, are we back?”. We’re back to 1989, you’re sat in the cinema and you’ve just seen the first glimpse of the future, it’s 2015.

You instantly need a hover board, the shark still looks fake in Jaws 19, hover conversions seem a little pricy and it’s even tricky to open a Pepsi but theres only one thing in your mind, Marty’s shoes, you want those shoes, you need those shoes. The next couple of weeks are spent making ‘swoosh’ noises when you slip on your school shoes wishing that you had power laces like Marty.

Well, it may be 23 years too late and they don’t have power laces, but the Nike Mag Back To The Future shoe is here. This mythical shoe that captured the imagination of every kid who watched the movie is now available to buy, right here, right now.

With only 1500 of this ultra rare shoe ever made and dedicated 100% to support The Michael J Fox foundation to help create a future without Parkinson’s disease and backed by the co-founder of Google, Sergey Brin who pledged to match all donations to the foundation until the end of 2012 thus doubling the total raised for all 1500 pairs to a massive $9.4 million, we know that it is unlikely that many of these shoes will see the light of day and most of them will end up hidden in a collection so this may be your only chance to own a piece of Nike and Back To The Future History.

Back in 1989, Nike designer Tinker Hatfield, the man behind best selling shoes like the Nike Air Jordan, the Nike Cross Trainer and the legendary Nike Air Max was commissioned to design a shoe for the blockbuster movie Back to the Future 2, Michael J. Fox then went on to make them the most famous shoes never made.

Nearly 16 years later in 2005, Tinker’s attention was brought an online petition asking that the shoes actually become a production model. So, with no mould and nothing but the original prop shoe from the film, Tinker and footwear innovator Tiffany Beers began rebuilding the Back To The Future MAG from scratch. The aesthetic had to be an exact match, down to the contours of the upper of the shoe, the glowing LED panels and the electroluminescent ‘NIKE’ in the velcro strap. To illuminate the Mag’s, just pinch the ear of the hi top and they’ll be glowing like its 2015 for up to four hours from a single charge.

It took six years, three restarts and many thousands of hours and dollars to recreate this amazing shoe. But when it was all said and done, this shoe is a perfect replica of the original and the true predecessor to the 2015 power-lacing Nike MAG.

They may seem a touch ‘pricey’ but it’s worth remembering that pair ‘number 1’, autographed by Michael J. Fox were auctioned and the winner was British trainer collector and rapper Tinie Tempah paying a massive $37500
